Scholarship Grant & Financial Aid

The AT&T Labs Fellowship Program (ALFP) offers three-year fellowships to outstanding under-represented minority and women students pursuing PhD studies in computing and communications-related fields. AFLP fellows are partnered with a technical staff member to serve as their mentor for the duration of the program. The program emphasizes personal interaction between the ALFP fellow and and their mentor. For the typical recipient, this personal interaction with a mentor is often the most important component of the program.

ALFP eligibility qualifications:

• US citizen or permanent resident.
• Female or member of a minority underrepresented in science fields (Hispanic, African-American, or Native American).
• Senior graduating in the current academic year or in their first or second year of grad school.
• Currently enrolled, or planning to enroll, in a graduate school program leading to a PhD.
• Major field must be in computer science, math, statistics, electrical engineering, operations research, systems engineering, industrial engineering, or related fields.

Fellowship applications must be submitted and all supporting materials must be mailed to the address below by January 31.

The application for internships and fellowships is the same. In the form, be sure to select the appropriate program.  Complete this on-line application, which requires the following items:

Your resume

Letters of recommendation from professors and former employers. Summer interns must supply one (and optionally up to three). Fellowship candidates must supply three (and optionally up to five). References will be contacted by e-mail and given a URL for uploading reference letters. You should contact your references early to let them know that they will be hearing from us.

Personal statement (up to 500 words). Optional for summer interns who should describe academic interests and career goals.  Required for fellowship applicants. Describe why you are enrolled in your present academic program and how you intend to use your graduate education.

Feel free to supply any other information helpful in assessing your application.

After submitting your application, you will receive an email containing the URL of your application record. You can use this URL to add references, update, or withdraw your application.

Fellowship applicants must also supply:

Official transcripts of grades from all undergraduate schools attended. If the transcripts will not be available by the January 31 deadline, send a copy of them to use until your official ones arrive.

Graduate Record Examination scores on the Aptitude Test and the appropriate Advanced Test.  List the institution code R2041, AT&T Labs, on the GRE registration form.
