The SEVEN Fund is sponsoring a global competition seeking the best essays written in the spirit of “In the River They Swim: Essays from Around the World on Enterprise Solutions to Poverty”. The competition will run from April 1st to September 1st, 2009. The top essay will be awarded a $10,000 prize; the best submissions will be published on www.intherivertheyswim.com to be read by a global audience, and, perhaps, in a future book.

Disney|ABC Television Writing Fellowship

About the Television Writing Fellowship
Fellows become employees of Disney | ABC Television Group and will be paid a weekly salary of $961.54 ($50,000.00 annualized) plus any applicable benefits for which they are eligible in accordance with the then-current Company benefits plans. The program is designed to expose aspiring writers to key executives, producers and literary representatives – all essential in the pursuit of a writing career. Additionally, while in the program, fellows have the opportunity to work one-on-one with a current programming or development executive to create spec scripts of series from the current broadcast season.  The ultimate goal is to prepare and nurture the fellows for a writing career. Elizabeth Brown Grant to Interior Design Programs

The Texas Chapter, IFDA initiated the Elizabeth Brown Grant to Interior Design Programs to honor one of the chapter’s and IFDA Educational Foundation’s founding members and first President. Her philosophy has always been to encourage education and promote discernment of quality in products and design. IFDA Educational Foundation will award one $1000 grant to an accredited Interior Design Program at a college, university, technical or art school, preferably one within the state of Texas, or available to any qualifying school in the United States. The grant will be paid to the school or department library, to be used for supplementary design program materials, such as books, periodicals, audio visual aids, computer software, or other needed resources. M. Naziruddin Ali Award for Excellence

A pioneer of Islamic activism in the United States, M. Naziruddin Ali’s exemplary dedication to the Muslim American community is illustrated by his lifelong association with MSA National, Islamic Society of North America, and North American Islamic Trust. Beginning as local MSA chapter president at the Illinois Institute of Technology and having chaired numerous MSA annual conferences, he subsequently served as president of MSA National for two terms. During his time as president, he was integral in facilitating the establishment of the Islamic Society of North America. Thereafter, he served as General Manager of NAIT for twenty years. His tireless service, sincerity, and unwavering commitment proved to be crucial in the birth and development of each of these organizations.
